Created to promote the Morgan horse breed, repurpose Morgans to new jobs before there is a need to rescue, but stepping in when possible to help Morgans at risk. Run solely by volunteers, MSN relies on donations and grants to run our mission.
Adopting is one of the most important aspects of what we do. It's not just pulling them and getting them safe. Matching them with their own person for a lifetime is our goal.
Fosters are key in this experience too. A foster is essential and doing the ground work to help the horses come around and help them become adoptable so they can find their own person. This can take time. This is not a trial for your own purpose but a commitment to helping the horse till a home can be found.
Repurpose is one way MSN helps Morgans at risk prior to getting them before there is a need to rescue. Many times these horses are acquired at a higher price point. Doing so keeps them from being lost in a system they are currently failing at, without the costs associated with quarantine. Because of this there is less rehabilitation needs and they are able to be placed quickly.
Rescue is often done from a kill pen level where the horses health is at risk and not much is known on the history. It also happens when there is a threat to life or the horse is at risk for being sold to a broker that will ship.
One of the main goals of our Youth Trainer Program is to be able to give our youth of tomorrow the opportunity to experience some quality and competitive Morgan horses while giving them the chance to grow their horsemanship skills under professional guidance.
Currently this program has worked mainly out of HorseFeathers Equine Facility in Midlothian TX. Only recently have we been able to market out to other locations.
This scholarship has been established by Catherine Olde in honor of her mother's memory who was passionate about horses in her day.
It's purpose is to aid a young person who may not be able to bear the full burden of ownership but has demonstrated a dedication to learning all aspects of horsemanship and a desire to be an active member of the HorseFeathers Equestrian Show Team, where many of our Morgan Safenet horses reside.
