ADOPTION
Morgan Safenet works hard to do it's best to match each horse with the right person. Often we feel a calling toward a certain one and as the discussion starts we may find another that hadn't been considered far more of a match. These horses come from situations where a person has given up on them. Taking this time helps ensure that they will stay in homes far longer because you are both suited for each other. While MSN will take back any horse that has been through our program, we are looking for them to be in homes long term versus having to move from place to place until the right fit is found.
Many will need time to regain a trust to humans that may have been lost. Often some need more rest and rehabilitation before jumping into a new job full of expectations. Being Morgan, most do want and love a job. MSN shares ALL known information on the horse that is being saved or repurposed to the adopter so that you are aware as well. Often times not much is known and none of us on the team has met the horse in person. Many times this work is taking a chance on an horse little history is known. But time, patience, love and proper horsemanship can lead to a fulfilling lasting bond between you and your horse.
Prior to adopting – All horses will go with an MSN Adoption contract and a basic reference check is done. (See Application below). We ask for references to verify your level of horsemanship and care so you can be matched with the right horse. If you are some distance from our location we will ask for photos of your facility and any horses in your care be emailed. Once all this is complete we can go forward with a phone call to discuss a suitable horse.
Vet checks and visits – Prepurchase exams may be done on any horse you choose at the adopters expense prior to adoption. In most cases visits can be arranged. In some cases you will not be able to ride or drive the horse of your choice prior too adoption. Most of the time if you are adopting out of quarantine or in some foster or home locations where it can not safely be done.
Trials – We do not offer trials. In some cases we have lease options and those terms will be clearly stated and gone over with each individual horse.
FOSTERING
Trials – It is important to note that fostering a horse is NOT a trial. Once a horse is chosen the goal is to help the organization by working with or caring for the horse(s) until a home can be found, helping to make the horse more placeable and offsetting the organizations expenses to do so, thus also allowing more to be helped.
Costs – The foster takes on the daily maintenance and care costs associated with that horse; Farrier, worming, food, board, etc. Any outside training choices must be approved by MSN and will be at the fosters expense. MSN takes on any major medical, transport too the foster and must be discussed prior to any medical being done, with the exception of emergency intervention to the health of the animal.
Responsibilities include – regular updates with photos and or video so that promotion of a home ready horse can be done. Fosters have the first choice in adopting the horse in their care.
We encourage you to watch our website and Facebook page for new arrivals. We also encourage you to apply as there is no cost to be a pre-approved home! Some of these horses come in and out very quickly and with this action out of the way MSN is has an easier time helping horses move quicker out of the pipeline. And if we don't have a suitable match, another organization may! There are many reliable breed organizations helping horses. Adopting one that is ready and evaluated in their care, or ours, helps more horses!
